MCENTEE TAKES SECOND IN GTS, THIRD CONSECUTIVE GRAND PRIX OF SONOMA PODIUM
Sonoma, CA – David McEntee is no stranger to the podium at the Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma, with a first and third in LMP675 in the last 2 years. “It was great to be a part of giving Lamborghini its best-ever finish in an international sports-car race,” said McEntee. “[Team co-founders] Tracy Krohn and Dick Barbour gave me the biggest opportunity yet to run with a factory-backed, top-level ALMS team, and I was glad that I could deliver a good resuld for them.” Team manager Dick Barbour called McEntee in Thursday to replace Scott Maxwell, who had to sit out the event at the last minute. McEntee had previously raced with Barbour in 2001, driving the Dick Barbour Racing Porsche in the American Le Mans GT class. “Getting a chance to race with Dick again was great,” said McEntee. “He always puts together such a professional operation, and it was a pleasure to drive with this team. He and Tracy have put together a great team.” Showing his versatility and extensive knowledge of the 2.53-mile circuit, McEntee was able to pull off his third ALMS podium at Sonoma’s Infineon Raceway, with short notice and no previous experience in GTS. “The GTS class has the most factory involvement in ALMS, making it the toughest class right now,” said McEntee. “There was some great competition out there that gave Tracy and I a run for our money.” McEntee has now competed in three of the four classes in American LeMans, placing third in LMP675 with Essex Racing Services last year and first in LMP675 with Archangel Motorsports, both races at Infineon Raceway. Three local new channels have interviewed McEntee regarding safety in auto racing, in light of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s crash during practice Sunday morning. The broadcasts will air on Monday during the evening news. McEntee is an instructor for the ESPN Russell Racing School and owner of Infinity Kart Services, the on-site kart storage facility at the Russell Karting Center at Infineon Raceway.
